Coming Home

This was a painting that I created to remind me of being on the water. I love sailing my Optimist sail boat and spend most of my summers sailing and racing in regattas. I also survived a harrowing ordeal when our family was caught in a tropical storm – with 80 knot winds - on a 24 foot skiff in the Gulf of Mexico, when we were grounded on a sand bar while fishing for Tarpon, Grouper and Redfish. Ever since that event, I always pay attention to land marks on land to help with navigation. Because sailors have traditionally used light houses to aid their navigation, this is important piece in the painting. I also used progressively lighter tones as you move away from the deep seas to the shore to convey the concept of happiness being felt when you arrive home from a long day on the water. Finally, I also used pink horizontally at the top of the canvass to convey the concept of a mast that is filling with air, providing you with wind power to take you home.
