I painted Leonard Cohen, a Canadian icon, because he is one of my mother’s favorite musicians. I became exposed to Leonard Cohen, listening to him regularly on my daily drive to and from school with my mother. I also had a chance to see him perform live, and it was an amazing experience. I chose the purple to be the main colour for this painting because of the it is a mix of blue – which shows the sadness of his music and red – which highlights the boldness of his poetry. I also really enjoyed painting his eyes.
