Nirvana X
Nirvana X
Despite the heroic attempts of the surgeon and Patient x’s proactive measures to alter the disease trajectory, he will not be Creutzfeld-Jacob Disease’s first survivor. In this piece, Patient x is no longer with us. And similar to One Perfect Day, the perspective of Nirvana X is solely from that of the patient as he enters another realm. Here, I have used framing and colouring to give the impression of a stained glass window and root the painting in an ecclesiastical setting; Patient x has now left the physical world and has entered the spiritual. He is now free to roam the windswept mountains of his youth eternally. And, of course, to once again climb the redwood tree that he first did at five.
