The Rabbi
The Rabbi
This was a piece that I painted after being exposed to a series of Rembrandt paintings donated by the Bader family to Queen’s University. What really stuck me was how Rembrandt lighted his subject. I decided to paint a picture of a Rabbi and used very realistic colours used by 16th century Masters but in my impressionist style. I wanted people to think about this Rabbi and wonder about the stories he may have heard. With his older clothing, the painting is meant to take us back to a time when people had discussions face to face as opposed to texting, tweeting and snapchatting.
